A crew member is reported missing at sea from an around-the-world 120-day cruise operated by Ambassador Cruise Line, as reported by the BBC. The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, served aboard the Ambience cruise ship, registered in the U.K.
The Ambience cruise ship set sail from Lisbon, Portugal, en route to Tilbury in Essex (U.K.) on Thursday afternoon. The crew member, believed to be from India, was unable to be located on the ship yesterday morning and was declared missing after breakfast.
A spokeswoman for Ambassador Cruise Line informed the BBC that a comprehensive search of the ship had been conducted and that the vessel was being retraced along its route. It is common practice for cruise ships lacking automatic man overboard (MOB) systems to search the ship first before turning back to search the water when a guest or crew member goes overboard.
This incident marks the 408th reported case of a person going overboard from a cruise ship or ferry since the year 2000. The name and job position of the missing crew member, as well as their tenure with Ambassador Cruise Line, remain undisclosed.
